October 15th, 2015- Outrageous Oral at UNT
The UNT Libraries are honored to present, in partnership with The Dallas Way and UNT’s Pride Alliance, the 2015 installment of Outrageous Oral, the exciting storytelling series recounting GLBT life in North Texas. Make your plans now to attend on Thursday, October 15, 2015, in The Forum (Room 140) of Willis Library on the UNT campus at 1506 Highland Avenue in Denton. The program begins at 7:00. Guest parking is available in the Highland Street garage.
There is no charge to attend Outrageous Oral events. Each Outrageous Oral presentation is video-taped and archived in The Dallas Way collection at UNT. Additional oral and written histories of people important to LGBT history in North Texas are also included in that collection. Materials are being digitized to allow world-wide access to this significant history.
Five remarkable presenters will tell their stories at this next Outrageous Oral, the 18th installment in the ongoing series.
Oliver Blumer is a Chiropractor, Certified Acupuncturist and Functional and Integrative Medicine provider. He also an educator and speaker on Transgender and Gender Expansive topics including cultural and clinical competency education combined with Awareness of Unconscious Bias. His non-profit work reaches Health Care providers, Mental Health and Social Services providers, Law Enforcement professionals and Workplace/HR professionals.
Jake Mangum is the Project Development Librarian for the Portal to Texas History at the University of North Texas Libraries. In this role he works with partners in the creation and digitization of historic collections.
KD Van Zandt is a comedian, drag performer, activist and wishful thinker who is proud to call Denton his home. A dedicated student, KD explores the places where trans* identity and privilege collide and watches a lot of TV.
E. Tamplin is a doctoral student who earned a B.S in Sociology and an M.Ed. in Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis with an emphasis in Higher Education Administration from the University of Missouri-Columbia.
Edra Bogle is a retired professor from the English Department at UNT. She taught graduate courses in Bibliography and Research, several in Continental Literature in Translation, and Science Fiction. After her retirement, Edra worked on multiple political campaigns and accepted the position of County Democratic Chair, becoming the second openly queer County Chair in Texas.
