Support The LGBT Studies Program

The program welcomes and appreciates any other donations. Donations are used for a variety of reason for the program. Donations goes towards scholarships for LGBT+ students to go towards their academic needs. With our growing program, money donated will also be used for students assistants, giving them a diverse and safe work experience, and events and programming that will help strengthen student connection on campus. Donations can also include books to help build the programs LGBT themed library.

The Donald F. Baker Fund - LGBT Studies Program

The Undergraduate Minor in LGBT studies at UNT was founded in memory of the educational work of Donald Floyd Baker (1947-2000). Mr. Baker’s family created this endowment to honor his many contributions as a community activist and lifetime educator.

Two years after publicly identifying himself as a gay teacher in Dallas ISD, he was a plaintiff in Baker v. Wade, a lawsuit challenging Texas Penal Code 21.06 that criminalized homosexual contact between consenting adults in private. Adocumentary featuring his crusade won a Katie Award from the Press Club in Dallas in 2000.

The family and friends of Don Baker invite you to be a part of remembering the man and his mission: Education…the tool to understanding. All contributions to the Don Baker Fund are tax deductible.
